Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a breathtaking performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26, rewriting multiple records with a stunning knock against Arunachal Pradesh.

Playing for Bihar in a Plate Group match at the JSCA Oval, Ranchi, the 14-year-old smashed a 36-ball century, becoming the youngest player ever to score a hundred in men’s List A cricket.

At just 14 years and 272 days, Suryavanshi broke a 39-year-old record held by Zahoor Elahi, announcing himself as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket.

The right-handed batter reached his hundred with a single off the first ball of the 12th over, showcasing remarkable composure alongside explosive stroke play.

Second-fastest List A century by an Indian

Suryavanshi’s knock also placed him among the fastest century-makers in List A history. His 36-ball hundred is now the second-fastest List A century by an Indian, behind only Anmolpreet Singh, who scored a 35-ball hundred in 2024.

Overall, the fastest List A century belongs to Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls), followed by AB de Villiers (31 balls).

The young batter didn’t stop there. Suryavanshi went on to score a phenomenal 190 runs off just 84 balls, hammering 16 fours and 15 sixes.

In the process, he also registered the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 59 balls, surpassing AB de Villiers’ previous record of 64 balls set in 2015.

A breakthrough year for the teenager

Suryavanshi’s latest heroics are part of an extraordinary breakout year. Earlier in 2025, he became the youngest player picked in an IPL auction.

later the youngest to score an IPL century, smashing 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. He finished IPL 2025 with 252 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of over 206.

At the youth level, Suryavanshi has been equally dominant. He recently scored a 95-ball 171 at the Under-19 Asia Cup and a 42-ball 144 against the UAE, recording one of the fastest T20 centuries by an Indian.

In youth ODIs, he averages 51.13 with a strike rate close to 159, underlining his consistency alongside power, which has helped him climb the youth cricket rankings steadily.

Eyes on the Under-19 World Cup

Currently, the vice-captain of Bihar, Suryavanshi, is expected to feature in the India Under-19 World Cup 2026 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

With record-breaking performances across formats, the young prodigy continues to push boundaries and strengthen his case as India’s next big batting star.
