Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has landed in controversy after a video showing him allegedly vaping inside the dressing room during an Indian Premier League 2026 match against the Punjab Kings went viral on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, where cameras briefly captured Parag holding a vape device while seated alongside teammates Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The footage, aired during the later stages of the match, quickly spread online, shifting attention away from the Rajasthan Royals’ impressive run chase.
While RR secured a crucial victory in a high-scoring encounter, the focus post-match remained firmly on Parag’s off-field actions. The video triggered widespread debate, with fans questioning both the legality and professionalism of the act during a live match situation.
The controversy carries legal weight as well. Under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019, the use, sale, and promotion of e-cigarettes are banned in India. Additionally, IPL venues are classified as no-smoking zones, and dressing room conduct falls under strict regulations outlined by the league.
As per the IPL Code of Conduct, any behavior that brings the game into disrepute can attract penalties. These may include fines, match fee deductions, or even suspension, depending on the severity of the breach. Match officials are expected to review such incidents before determining disciplinary action.
The situation has also sparked strong reactions across social media, with many fans urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take strict action to maintain the integrity of the tournament. Some have pointed out the presence of younger players in the dressing room, raising concerns over professionalism and influence.
Notably, this is not the first off-field issue involving the Rajasthan Royals this season, adding further pressure on the franchise management.
Despite the team’s remarkable chase of a 200-plus target, powered by key contributions in the middle order, the vaping controversy has overshadowed the on-field performance. With no official statement yet from the BCCI or IPL authorities, all eyes remain on potential disciplinary action against Parag in the coming days.
