RCB Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs After Big Win

The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs has entered its most exciting phase as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the first team to officially secure a playoff berth after their dominant win over Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.

With only a few league matches remaining, every result is now directly impacting the playoff equation, net run rate battle, and top-two finish scenarios.

RCB continued their outstanding campaign with a commanding 23-run victory over PBKS at the HPCA Stadium on May 17. Virat Kohli once again played a leading role both with the bat and through his aggressive on-field energy.

The former captain scored a fluent 58 off 37 balls, striking four boundaries and three sixes while controlling the innings during the middle overs. Kohli’s animated celebrations and passionate leadership created a high-intensity atmosphere throughout the contest.

Venkatesh Iyer further powered Bengaluru to a massive total of 222 for 4 with a stunning unbeaten 73 from just 40 deliveries. Punjab Kings tried to respond through Shashank Singh’s explosive half-century, but RCB bowlers maintained pressure during key moments.

Rasikh Salam Dar claimed three wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered crucial breakthroughs to seal an important victory.

With 18 points already secured, RCB are now strong favorites to finish inside the top two. Another victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad could confirm the top spot in the IPL 2026 points table. Their impressive net run rate also gives them a major advantage over the chasing teams.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad remain firmly in contention for playoff qualification. GT can officially confirm their place if results go in their favor before their final game against Chennai Super Kings.

SRH are also close to qualification and need one more win to reach the crucial 16-point mark.

Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings are still mathematically alive in the playoff race. CSK face the toughest challenge with two must-win games remaining against SRH and GT.

RR also need victories in both remaining matches to stay in control of their playoff hopes.

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians have officially been eliminated from IPL 2026 playoff contention after failing to recover from inconsistent campaigns.

As the league stage approaches its final week, every run, wicket and net run rate calculation could decide the final four teams. The IPL 2026 playoff battle is now set for a thrilling finish with multiple franchises still fighting for qualification.
