Punjab Kings scripted history in IPL 2026 with a sensational run chase, defeating Delhi Capitals by chasing down a massive target of 265, the highest successful chase in IPL and T20 history.
Playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi posted a daunting 264/2, powered by a stunning 152 not out off 67 balls from KL Rahul, the highest score by an Indian in IPL history.
Rahul, alongside Nitish Rana, who scored 91 off 44 balls, built a dominant 220-run partnership that looked match-winning.
However, Punjab Kings responded fearlessly.
Prabhsimran Singh smashed 76 off 26 balls while Priyansh Arya added 43 off 17, putting together a rapid 126-run opening stand. Punjab raced to 116 without loss in the powerplay, setting the tone for the chase.
After the openers departed, captain Shreyas Iyer ensured there was no collapse. He remained unbeaten on 71 off 36 balls and guided the team with control and composure. Delhi’s fielding errors, including two dropped catches, proved costly as Punjab kept the required rate in check.
Punjab completed the chase with seven balls to spare, registering the highest successful run chase in IPL history.
The match also saw a concerning moment when Lungi Ngidi suffered an injury while attempting a catch. He was taken off the field for medical attention, and later updates confirmed he was stable.
This win strengthens Punjab Kings’ position at the top of the table and highlights their dominance in high-scoring games. For the Delhi Capitals, it was a tough defeat despite a historic batting performance.
