Kolkata Knight Riders have strengthened their support staff ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League by confirming the appointment of former wicketkeeper batter Dishant Yagnik as the team’s new fielding coach.
The move comes as part of a wider backroom overhaul as KKR prepares for the upcoming season with a refreshed coaching setup.
The franchise confirmed the development on Wednesday, highlighting Yagnik’s experience and expertise as key factors behind the decision.
KKR believes his appointment will add significant value to the squad, particularly in sharpening fielding standards, an area that has become increasingly crucial in the fast-paced T20 format.
KKR is set to enter IPL 2026 with a revamped support staff led by head coach Abhishek Nayar, who also heads the coaching unit for UP Warriorz in WPL 2026.
The coaching group also features mentor Dwayne Bravo, assistant coach Shane Watson, bowling coach Tim Southee, and power coach Andre Russell.
The franchise described the new structure as a fresh chapter aimed at building a more dynamic and balanced team environment.
Dishant Yagnik brings with him a wealth of experience, both as a former professional cricketer and a coach.
During his playing days, he represented Rajasthan in domestic cricket and featured in 25 IPL matches between 2011 and 2014 for the Rajasthan Royals. Known for his sharp wicketkeeping skills and game awareness, Yagnik carved out a steady domestic career across formats.
Following his retirement from competitive cricket, Yagnik transitioned seamlessly into coaching. He remained closely associated with the IPL, serving as a fielding coach across multiple seasons.
His longest stint came with the Rajasthan Royals, where he worked from 2018 until the 2025 edition. During this period, he was widely credited for improving the team’s fielding standards and working closely with both Indian and overseas players.
Apart from his IPL commitments, Yagnik has also been active in domestic cricket. He is currently associated with the Jammu and Kashmir senior men’s team as their fielding coach, contributing to player development at the grassroots and state level.
KKR’s decision to rope in Yagnik reflects the franchise’s intent to focus strongly on athleticism, agility, and discipline on the field.
With IPL 2026 scheduled to run from March 26 to May 31, the Knight Riders are keen to ensure that every department, including fielding, is finely tuned ahead of the tournament.
As the season approaches, all eyes will be on how the new support staff gels together and whether Yagnik’s presence can provide KKR with the extra edge needed in tight contests.
