Ishan Kishan 125 Off 39 Balls Sets Record

The 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy kicked off with a statistical explosion that has left the global cricketing community in awe. In a single day of play, the record for the fastest List A century by an Indian was broken, and then the standings were reshuffled twice more, headlined by a blistering comeback knock from Ishan Kishan.

Three Players Who Made History

While the national spotlight was on the return of veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, it was the youngsters and domestic captains who stole the show.

Sakibul Gani (Bihar): Smashed a 32-ball century, setting the new record for the fastest List A hundred by an Indian. He finished with an unbeaten 128* off just 40 balls.

Ishan Kishan (Jharkhand): Following his recent T20 World Cup squad selection, the Jharkhand captain proved his “X-factor” by racing to a 33-ball century. His final score was 125 off 39 balls.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Bihar): The 14-year-old prodigy hit a 36-ball century, becoming the youngest centurion in List A history. He eventually scored a massive 190 off 84 balls.

Ishan Kishan’s Statement of Intent

Playing in an Elite-group clash against a formidable Karnataka side in Ahmedabad, Ishan Kishan’s innings was a masterclass in modern power-hitting. Walking in after a solid foundation laid by Virat Singh (88) and Kumar Kushagra (63), Kishan unleashed a barrage of 14 sixes.

His 33-ball ton effectively secured the second-fastest spot on the all-time Indian list, demoting Suryavanshi’s earlier record to fourth in the span of just a few hours.

Bihar’s World Record Total

The carnage wasn’t limited to individual milestones. Led by Gani and Suryavanshi, Bihar posted a surreal 574/6 against Arunachal Pradesh.

This now stands as the highest team total in the history of Men’s List A cricket, surpassing Tamil Nadu’s previous world record of 506 in the same series. The innings featured a collective 38 sixes, a testament to the aggressive evolution of the Indian domestic circuit throughout the series.

The Statistical Context

To put these feats into perspective, the global record for the fastest List A century is held by Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls). Sakibul Gani (32) and Ishan Kishan (33) have now moved into the top five of the all-time world standings, sitting alongside legends like AB de Villiers (31 balls).
