USA women’s all-rounder Isani Vaghela has been suspended from bowling in international cricket after her action was found to be illegal under the ICC’s bowling regulations.
The decision was taken by the International Cricket Council following a detailed review during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
Vaghela’s action first came under scrutiny during the USA Women’s group-stage match against Ireland, where on-field officials reported her bowling action.
As per ICC protocol, the matter was referred to an Event Panel, which then examined video footage from Vaghela’s subsequent match against Papua New Guinea, a game that the USA went on to win.
After the assessment, the panel concluded that her bowling action exceeded the permitted 15-degree elbow extension limit, leading to an immediate suspension from bowling duties.
The 20-year-old medium pacer has been an important part of the USA women’s setup in recent years.
Since making her T20I debut in 2021, Vaghela has featured in 39 Women’s T20 Internationals, claiming 31 wickets and establishing herself as a reliable and economical bowling option.
She also made her ODI debut in 2024 and has picked up four wickets in six matches in the 50-over format so far.
Under ICC regulations, Vaghela’s suspension will remain in force until she completes the required remedial work and successfully clears a bowling action reassessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre.
The reassessment process involves biomechanical analysis using high-speed cameras and motion-tracking technology to ensure her action complies with the rules.
Only after receiving clearance will she be allowed to resume bowling in international cricket.
While Vaghela remains eligible for selection as a batter, her suspension poses a challenge for the USA women’s team, particularly given their reliance on multi-skilled players.
Her absence as a bowling option could force team management to rethink combinations and redistribute bowling responsibilities in future tournaments.
The USA women’s team had a tough run in the qualifiers, finishing the Super Six stage with only one win. Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands qualified for the Women’s T20 World Cup, while the USA missed out.
For Isani Vaghela, the suspension represents a temporary setback rather than the end of the road. Several international players have successfully corrected their actions and returned stronger.
With proper guidance and support, the young all-rounder will aim to complete the corrective process and make a confident return to international cricket, competing on the biggest stage where teams chase the most ICC tournament wins.
