The historic match was played at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where India lifted their record third T20 World Cup trophy.
With this remarkable victory, India became the first team in history to win the T20 World Cup three times and also the first side to successfully defend the title. The triumph was particularly special for Indian fans because the team turned the same venue of their painful 2023 ODI World Cup loss into a moment of celebration.
After New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bowl first, India responded with an aggressive batting performance. Young opener Abhishek Sharma provided a sensational start and smashed the fastest half-century in a T20 World Cup final.
The left-handed batter scored 52 runs off just 21 balls with six fours and three sixes to give India early momentum.
Sanju Samson then took control of the innings and delivered one of the most memorable performances of the tournament. The wicketkeeper batter scored a brilliant 89 runs from 46 balls. His powerful knock included five fours and eight sixes and became the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final.
Ishan Kishan also played an important role in the middle order with a quick 54 runs from 25 balls. The attacking partnership between Samson and Kishan helped India post a massive total of 255 for 5, the highest ever in a T20 World Cup final.
Chasing the huge target, New Zealand struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Tim Seifert fought hard with a quick 52 runs from 26 balls, but regular wickets prevented the team from building a strong partnership.
India’s bowling attack then dominated the second innings. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell and finished with four wickets for just 15 runs. Axar Patel also played a key role by picking up three crucial wickets during the chase.
The dominant victory not only secured India their third T20 World Cup title but also confirmed their position as the most successful team in the tournament’s history. The Men in Blue once again showed their strength in batting, bowling, and teamwork to become world champions.
The historic clash between the India national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final also created a massive digital milestone, as the IND vs NZ Final hits 82.1 crore viewers across streaming platforms and television worldwide.
