Flintoff Admits Clash With Yuvraj Singh in 2007 T20 WC

The game of cricket has witnessed countless moments of brilliance, but only a few transcend time and become eternal symbols of greatness.

One such unforgettable chapter was written by Yuvraj Singh during the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, when he stunned the cricketing world by smashing six sixes in an over against England. Even after 18 years, that moment continues to inspire fans and players alike.

The iconic feat unfolded on September 19, 2007, in a high-pressure group stage match between India and England.

India, coming into the contest after a loss to New Zealand, needed a strong performance to stay alive in the tournament.

Openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag laid a solid foundation with a commanding 136-run partnership, putting England’s bowlers under relentless pressure.

Yuvraj Singh walked in after Robin Uthappa’s dismissal, and while he began cautiously, the atmosphere changed dramatically near the end of the 18th over.

A heated exchange with England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff sparked emotions at the crease. What followed next became one of the most explosive responses in cricket history.

In the 19th over, Stuart Broad took the ball, unaware that he was about to be etched into cricket folklore.

Yuvraj Singh unleashed his fury, sending every delivery over the boundary. Six balls, six sixes, each more emphatic than the last.

The Indian all-rounder raced to a half-century in just 12 deliveries, the fastest in T20 international cricket at the time, and powered India to a massive total of 218.

England never recovered from the psychological blow. India went on to win the match by 18 runs and later lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup, with Yuvraj’s innings standing out as a defining moment of the tournament.

Years later, Andrew Flintoff openly reflected on the incident, admitting that he had crossed the line during the verbal exchange.

He acknowledged that his provocation fueled Yuvraj’s response and altered the momentum of the game instantly.

Flintoff also recalled how Yuvraj kept looking at him after each six, turning the moment into a mix of regret and admiration.

The former India all-rounder reflected on the incident as a turning point that showcased how passion and pressure can combine to produce iconic moments in world cricket.

Yuvraj responded to Flintoff’s candid admission with warmth, calling him a legend on social media, a reminder of the mutual respect between two fierce competitors.

That fiery exchange and the historic sixes remain a testament to how emotion, pressure, and talent can combine to create magic on the cricket field.
