David Warner Charged in Sydney Drink Driving Case

Former Australia opener David Warner has been charged with drink driving in Sydney after failing a roadside breath test, adding a legal twist to his ongoing T20 commitments.

The incident occurred on April 5 in the eastern suburb of Maroubra, where police were conducting random breath testing.

According to officials, Warner returned a positive reading and was later taken to a local police station, where a second test allegedly recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.104. This is more than double the legal limit of 0.05 in New South Wales.

Arrest Details and Legal Process

Warner was issued a court attendance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7. The charge falls within the mid-range category of prescribed alcohol concentration, which carries legal and reputational implications.

Reports suggest Warner had consumed alcohol before driving, although the matter will now proceed through the legal system. Authorities have not indicated any further action beyond the scheduled court hearing.

PSL Availability Unaffected

Despite the off-field incident, Warner’s participation in the Pakistan Super League remains unaffected. He is expected to return to lead Karachi Kings, with the court date set to ensure no clash with the tournament schedule.

Warner had briefly travelled back to Australia during a break in the PSL fixtures 2026. His team has made a strong start to the season, winning all three matches so far, with Warner contributing a half-century in their latest outing.

Cricket NSW Responds

Cricket New South Wales issued a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the incident while extending support to the player.

The board reiterated its commitment to road safety, noting its long-standing initiatives aimed at promoting responsible driving. Officials confirmed that Warner will be supported through the legal process while also reinforcing awareness among players.

Context and Impact

The development comes at a time when Warner has been in excellent form in T20 cricket, following a standout Big Bash League season. However, the incident raises questions around off-field discipline and public image.

While his immediate cricketing commitments remain unaffected, the case could carry broader implications depending on legal outcomes. For now, the focus remains on both his upcoming court appearance and continued role in franchise cricket.
