Chris Lynn Back at Northamptonshire for 2026 T20 Blast

Australian power-hitter Chris Lynn is set to make a much-anticipated return to Northamptonshire for the 2026 Vitality T20 Blast, marking a reunion that promises fireworks at Wantage Road.

The move comes just a year after Lynn’s unforgettable unbeaten century for Hampshire shattered Northants’ Finals Day hopes, making his comeback all the more compelling.

Lynn previously represented Northamptonshire during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, where he quickly became a fan favourite.

Across those two campaigns, the destructive opener piled up 880 runs, including three centuries, and consistently ranked among the most feared overseas batters in the competition.

His ability to dominate bowlers from the outset gave Northants a cutting edge at the top of the order.

Head coach Darren Lehmann had attempted to bring Lynn back during the latter stages of last season’s group phase, but the Australian had already committed to Hampshire.

That decision proved costly for Northamptonshire, as Lynn produced a brutal 108 not out against his former side in the semi-finals on Finals Day, effectively ending their title challenge. Hampshire went on to reach the final, where they eventually lost to Somerset.

Determined to add experience and explosive power to his squad, Lehmann has now successfully secured Lynn’s return ahead of the 2026 campaign.

The signing follows confirmation that South African batter Matthew Breetzke will not be available due to IPL commitments and international duties, prompting Northants to prioritise an overseas player with full tournament availability.

Northamptonshire has been proactive in reshaping its squad for the upcoming season. The club announced the high-profile signing of Nathan McSweeney on an all-format deal earlier in the year, while Louis Kimber has joined from Leicestershire.

Calvin Harrison’s loan spell from Nottinghamshire has been made permanent, and former Lancashire head coach Glen Chapple has been appointed as Lehmann’s assistant, further strengthening the backroom staff.

Speaking about Lynn’s return, Lehmann highlighted the value of continuity and balance in T20 cricket, stressing that having a proven match-winner available throughout the competition could be crucial in pushing for another Finals Day appearance.
