The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major reward for the Indian Under-19 men’s team following their memorable triumph in the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
The announcement comes after India produced a dominant all-round performance to lift the prestigious trophy for a record sixth time, further cementing the nation’s supremacy in age-group cricket.
The Indian Under-19 team will receive a cash reward of ₹7.5 crore for winning the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which was held in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
India sealed the title with a comprehensive victory over England in the final at the Harare Sports Club.
The young Indian side displayed remarkable composure and maturity on the big stage, outclassing their opponents in both batting and bowling to complete a campaign marked by consistency and confidence.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the total reward will be shared among the players, the technical support staff, and the national selection committee.
He added that while the exact distribution of the prize money is still being finalised, the board remains committed to recognising the collective effort that went into the title-winning campaign.
The final witnessed an extraordinary batting display from India. Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi grabbed the spotlight with a sensational century, showcasing fearless stroke-play well beyond his age.
Captain Ayush Mhatre played a steady and responsible knock, anchoring the innings, while wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu’s valuable contribution ensured India posted a formidable total.
England began their chase with promise, but sustained pressure from India’s disciplined bowling attack led to a middle-order collapse.
Although Caleb Falconer fought valiantly with a brilliant century, the target proved too steep as India maintained control throughout the contest.
The victory also completed a rare double for Indian cricket, with the country now holding both the ICC Under-19 Men’s and Women’s World Cup titles simultaneously.
Saikia praised the young players, saying the achievement reflects the strength of India’s well-funded cricket ecosystem, with the BCCI among the richest cricket boards in the world and consistently investing in quality coaching, competitive domestic structures, and a strong talent identification system.
He further revealed that an official announcement regarding central contracts for senior men’s and women’s players will be made soon. India’s latest Under-19 triumph stands as a proud moment for the nation and a promising sign for the future of Indian cricket.
