The Board of Control for Cricket in India, widely regarded as the richest cricket board in the world, has announced a massive ₹131 crore cash reward for the India national cricket team after their historic triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The announcement came shortly after India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team in the final to successfully defend their title.
India delivered a dominant performance in the championship match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, winning by 96 runs in front of a packed crowd in Ahmedabad. The victory marked a historic milestone for Indian cricket, as the team became the first side in T20 World Cup history to retain the title.
Historic Achievement for Team India
With the triumph, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, reinforcing their status as one of the most successful teams in the shortest format of the game.
The tournament campaign showcased strong performances from both experienced players and emerging talents under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav.
The final saw India produce an all-round display with the bat and ball, securing a convincing victory over New Zealand. The performance not only ensured the trophy remained in India but also made the country the first host nation to win the tournament while defending the title.
BCCI Breaks Its Own Reward Record
The ₹131 crore announcement by the BCCI also surpasses its previous reward record. When India won the 2024 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the board had awarded the team ₹125 crore.
This latest reward reflects the significance of India’s back-to-back world titles and the team’s remarkable consistency in global tournaments.
BCCI officials congratulated the players, coaching staff, and selectors for their dedication and outstanding performances throughout the tournament. The board emphasised that the reward recognises the effort of the entire squad and support staff who contributed to the successful campaign.
Prize Money from the ICC
In addition to the reward from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, India also received the official prize money for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from the International Cricket Council, further boosting the team’s earnings after their historic triumph.
India’s victory in the 2026 edition has further strengthened its legacy in T20 cricket. With a record-breaking reward and another global title secured, the team’s achievement will be remembered as one of the most significant moments in modern Indian cricket history.
