Former Punjab cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill passed away on Wednesday, May 6 2026 at just 36 years old. The shocking news has left the entire Indian cricket community in deep grief during the ongoing IPL 2026 season.

Amanpreet Singh Gill belonged to the same generation of talented young cricketers as Virat Kohli, Saurabh Tiwary and Manish Pandey. He shared the dressing room with Kohli during the India U-19 tri-series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In the final of that U-19 tri-series Gill delivered a match winning performance. He picked up 3 wickets for just 19 runs as India dominated the opposition completely and lifted the trophy with great confidence.

Despite his strong U-19 showing Gill did not make it to the U-19 World Cup squad held in Malaysia. Selectors chose Pradeep Sangwan and Ajitesh Argal over him for that prestigious tournament.

Amanpreet Singh Gill was born in Chandigarh in September 1989. He was a quick and energetic fast bowler who played with real passion and dedication for the Punjab state team throughout his entire domestic cricket career.

He represented Punjab as a medium pacer in domestic cricket and earned a spot in the IPL side Kings XI Punjab. He was part of the franchise during the tournament’s very first season back in 2008.

After retiring from playing cricket Gill remained connected to the game he loved. He joined Punjab’s senior selection committee and worked tirelessly to identify and develop future cricketing talent across the state of Punjab.

The Punjab Cricket Association released an official statement expressing deep sorrow. PCA said it deeply mourns the sad demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill former Punjab cricketer and Member of the Senior Selection Committee Punjab.

Punjab Kings, the franchise formerly known as Kings XI Punjab also honored Amanpreet through their official social media handles. They offered their deepest condolences to his family friends and everyone across the cricket fraternity.

The Punjab Cricket Association did not reveal the official cause of death, keeping personal details private out of respect after Amanpreet Singh Gill dies. Instead, the focus remained entirely on celebrating and honoring the life of a truly dedicated Punjab cricketer and selector.

The entire Indian cricket family mourns the loss of Amanpreet Singh Gill. He will always be remembered as a passionate cricketer who served Punjab cricket wholeheartedly both on the field and behind the scenes.
