NZ Women Announce T20 World Cup 2026 Squad

Defending champions New Zealand women’s national cricket team have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in England and Wales from June 12. The squad reflects a strong blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent as the team eyes back-to-back titles.

All-rounder Amelia Kerr will lead the side, taking over captaincy duties from Sophie Devine. Notably, 10 players from New Zealand’s previous title-winning campaign have retained their spots, ensuring continuity and stability within the squad.

Veterans Suzie Bates, Devine, and Lea Tahuhu are set to feature in their final T20 World Cup, marking the end of an era for New Zealand cricket.

Bates, who confirmed her retirement earlier, will be making her 10th appearance in the tournament. The trio’s experience is expected to play a crucial role as they aim to finish their international careers on a high.

New faces such as Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp have earned maiden World Cup call-ups following impressive domestic performances. Their inclusion highlights the selectors’ focus on building future depth while maintaining a competitive edge.

Head coach Ben Sawyer emphasized the significance of the upcoming tournament, particularly with three senior players set to retire together. He described it as a “special occasion” and expressed confidence in the squad’s balance and preparation.

New Zealand has been placed in Group 2, alongside strong opponents including England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Scotland. The team will begin their campaign against the West Indies on June 13, in what promises to be a competitive opening fixture.

Despite the absence of key spinner Eden Carson due to injury, the squad boasts depth in both batting and bowling departments. The pace attack, in particular, offers healthy competition for places, while the batting lineup has shown improvement in recent series.

With a mix of proven match-winners and exciting young talent, New Zealand enters the tournament as one of the favorites. As they prepare to defend their title, all eyes will be on how the experienced core and new generation combine on the global stage.
