Yuzvendra Chahal Quits Alcohol Ahead of IPL 2026

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has revealed a major lifestyle change ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026, confirming that he has completely stopped consuming alcohol in a bid to improve his fitness and on-field performance.

Speaking during a candid conversation with AB de Villiers, Chahal shared that the decision is part of his effort to remain competitive at the highest level as he enters the latter stage of his career. The 35-year-old emphasised that maintaining peak physical condition has now become his top priority.

“I stopped drinking alcohol more than six months ago. I want to be more active and give 150 per cent for my team,” Chahal said, underlining his commitment to setting an example as a senior player in the league.

Chahal is set to represent Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, continuing with the franchise after playing a key role in their impressive 2025 campaign. Punjab Kings reached the final last season but suffered a narrow defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, falling short by just six runs in a closely fought contest.

Reflecting on that loss, Chahal pointed out the absence of all-rounder Marco Jansen as a crucial factor. He noted that Jansen’s impact with both bat and ball could have changed the outcome of the final.

Despite the disappointment, Chahal’s individual performances remained significant. He picked up important wickets throughout the tournament, even while dealing with injuries during the knockout stages.

The spinner later revealed that he played through a rib fracture and a knuckle injury, which limited his effectiveness in crucial matches.

Heading into IPL 2026, Chahal has made it clear that fitness and consistency will be his primary focus. Having been away from India’s white-ball setup in recent years, the veteran sees this season as an opportunity to re-establish himself at the top level.

With a renewed mindset, improved discipline, and valuable experience, Chahal aims to lead from the front and help Punjab Kings mount another strong title challenge in the upcoming season.
