Cameron Green Loses Cool in IPL 2026 Interview

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, one of the IPL’s most expensive players after being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record Rs 25.20 crore at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, was involved in a tense exchange with a reporter following Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales in Sydney.

The interaction, reported by Tom Decent of The Age, began positively with Green discussing his recent century against NSW, his first hundred since August last year.

However, the atmosphere quickly soured when questions turned to his form leading up to the innings. “I’m not answering that question. Next question,” Green reportedly said, before adding “waste of time” as the reporter concluded the brief interview.

The player then asked, “Why are you out to get me?” prompting an apology from Western Australia assistant coach Beau Casson.

Green’s recent performances have been under scrutiny. He managed just 171 runs at an average of 24.42 in the 2025-26 Ashes and scored only 24 runs in the T20 World Cup. Despite this, his recent ton against NSW has shown promise and suggested he could regain momentum ahead of the IPL.

KKR, three-time IPL champions, have placed high expectations on the 26-year-old as they rebuild their squad. Green’s auction fee set a record for an overseas player, highlighting the franchise’s faith in his all-round abilities. He will be a key figure when KKR kickstart their IPL 2026 campaign against five-time champions Mumbai Indians on March 29.

While the focus is on Green’s batting and role in the upcoming IPL, the incident has sparked discussions about the mental pressures on high-profile players. Former Australian captain Greg Chappell expressed concern over Green’s form trajectory, noting that the young all-rounder must find consistency to justify the franchise’s investment.

With IPL 2026 around the corner, Green’s form, mindset, and on-field performances will be closely monitored by both media and fans, as he aims to balance franchise expectations with international aspirations.
