Nahid Rana Credits Shaun Tait for Five-Wicket Haul

Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana delivered one of the most impressive performances of his young international career, crediting fast-bowling coach Shaun Tait for helping him develop the confidence and mindset needed to succeed at the highest level.

Rana’s five-wicket haul played a decisive role in Bangladesh’s convincing eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the opening ODI of the series in Mirpur.

The 23-year-old right-arm pacer produced a spell that unsettled Pakistan’s batting order with pace, bounce, and disciplined line-and-length bowling. Frequently touching speeds above 140 km/h, Rana combined raw pace with control to dismantle the opposition lineup.

The performance was particularly significant considering it came in just his 17th international appearance, highlighting the rapid progress he has made since breaking into the national setup.

Following the match, Rana spoke about the influence of Shaun Tait, the former Australian speedster who now works as Bangladesh’s fast-bowling coach.

Rana explained that Tait maintains a supportive environment where players feel comfortable seeking advice and discussing their plans.

The Australian mentor often encourages bowlers to trust their strengths and focus on executing clear strategies on the field. That message, Rana noted, has helped him remain composed during high-pressure moments in international cricket.

Rana first drew widespread attention in early 2024 when he made his debut in the ICC World Test Championship against Sri Lanka in Sylhet. Since then, he has steadily established himself as one of Bangladesh’s most promising pace options across formats.

While his ability to generate extreme pace continues to attract attention, the young fast bowler insists that skill and discipline remain far more important than raw speed.

Reflecting on his match-winning spell, Rana emphasised that international cricket rewards bowlers who understand conditions and execute their plans effectively. Rather than chasing higher speeds, he prefers to concentrate on accuracy and reading the pitch.

He also revealed that conversations with senior teammates such as Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed during the match helped him identify the most effective areas to bowl on the Mirpur surface.

Bangladesh eventually chased down the modest target with ease to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. For Nahid Rana, however, the performance represented more than just a personal milestone.

It was another step in his development as an international fast bowler, shaped significantly by guidance from experienced mentors like Shaun Tait.
