Suryakumar Yadav Targets Olympic Gold at LA 2028

Suryakumar Yadav has already shifted focus to the next major milestone after the historic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Following the dominant win in the final, the skipper revealed that winning an Olympic gold medal in 2028 is now the next big ambition.

The final was played at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, where India secured a commanding 96-run victory. Batting first, the team delivered a spectacular performance and posted 255/5 in 20 overs, one of the highest totals recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match.

Explosive contributions from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan powered the innings and placed immense pressure on the opposition.

During the chase, the bowling attack stepped up with a dominant performance. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell, claiming four crucial wickets and earning the Player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, Samson’s remarkable consistency throughout the tournament saw him score 321 runs in five matches, which earned him the Player of the Tournament honour.

After lifting the third T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar made it clear that the journey is far from over. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the captain confirmed that the next target is Olympic success.

“The next goal is the Olympics, Olympic gold, and also the T20 World Cup that year,” Suryakumar said while addressing reporters.

Cricket will return to the Olympic stage at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, giving teams a historic opportunity to compete for a gold medal in the shortest format of the game.

Reflecting on the journey, Suryakumar credited the success to two years of hard work and a fearless brand of cricket adopted after the 2024 season. Under his leadership, the team has embraced an aggressive approach that has brought consistent success in international tournaments.

The captain admitted that the feeling of winning the World Cup has not fully sunk in yet, but described the journey as unforgettable. With strong momentum and a confident squad, the focus now shifts to the next big challenge: winning Olympic gold in 2028 and continuing success on the global stage.
