IND vs NZ Final Hits 82.1 Crore Viewers New Record

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final between the India national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team created history not only on the field but also in the digital streaming world. The high-voltage clash recorded a staggering 82.1 crore viewers on the JioHotstar platform, making it the highest viewership ever recorded for a T20 World Cup match.

The final witnessed a massive surge in concurrent viewership as the match progressed. When the last New Zealand wicket fell in the 19th over, confirming India’s victory, the platform recorded 74.5 crore viewers simultaneously watching the match. The number continued to grow after the match, eventually reaching 82.1 crore viewers by the end of the post-match presentation ceremony.

Viewership Grew Rapidly During the Match

The viewership numbers began rising even before the first ball was bowled. During the opening ceremony performance by icon Ricky Martin, around 2.1 crore viewers were already watching the broadcast. As excitement built up for the final, the audience count increased to 4.2 crore during the toss.

Before India started batting, the viewership climbed to 6.5 crore, surpassing the previous record for an ICC tournament final. By the end of India’s innings, the concurrent viewership had skyrocketed to 43.9 crore, while 44.3 crore viewers remained connected during the innings break.

When New Zealand began its chase of the challenging total, the numbers continued to rise. Viewership touched 50.3 crore by the end of the first over of New Zealand’s innings, highlighting the enormous global interest in the contest.

India Clinches Historic Third T20 World Cup Title

On the field, the India national cricket team delivered a dominant performance to win the title for the third time in T20 World Cup history after previous triumphs in 2007 and 2024. Batting first in Ahmedabad, India, posted a formidable 255 for 5, which became the highest total against New Zealand in a World Cup final.

In response, the New Zealand national cricket team was bowled out for 159 runs, giving India a massive 96-run victory. The win also marked a historic milestone as India became the first nation to lift the T20 World Cup trophy on home soil.

Previous Viewership Records Broken

The massive streaming numbers easily surpassed previous records on digital platforms. The 2024 T20 World Cup final had recorded 5.3 crore peak viewers on Disney+ Hotstar, while the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Final between India and Australia registered 5.9 crore peak concurrent viewers.

With 82.1 crore viewers, the 2026 final has now set a new benchmark for global cricket streaming, reflecting the sport’s growing digital audience and India’s unmatched fan base in international cricket.
