Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir hosted the entire Team India squad and support staff for a special dinner at his residence in Delhi on Sunday evening, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere ahead of India’s next T20 World Cup 2026 fixture against Namibia.
The gathering came as the Men in Blue arrived in the national capital following their opening Group A victory.
India began their T20 World Cup campaign with a hard-fought win over the United States and then travelled to Delhi for their second group match, scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on February 12.
With the tournament shifting to the capital, Gambhir used the opportunity to organise a team bonding session away from the pressures of training and match preparation.
Several Indian players were seen arriving at the coach’s residence, where they were personally welcomed by Gambhir and his family.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma, and other members of the squad attended the dinner, along with members of the coaching and support staff. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla was also present at the gathering.
The dinner night quickly caught attention on social media, with videos and images of the team’s arrival going viral.
The event highlighted the importance Gambhir places on maintaining a positive and united dressing-room environment during major tournaments.
This was not the first time Gambhir had invited the Indian team to his home city. During India’s home Test series against the West Indies last year, the former opener had hosted a similar dinner, a gesture that was appreciated by players and staff alike.
The idea, according to those close to the setup, is to help players unwind and strengthen team chemistry.
On the field, India will be keen to build momentum after their opening win against the USA. Despite a top-order collapse, captain Suryakumar Yadav played a decisive unbeaten knock to guide India to a competitive total.
The bowlers then delivered a disciplined performance, with Mohammed Siraj making an immediate impact on his return.
As the defending champions prepare for the Namibia clash in Delhi, Gambhir’s dinner served as a timely break, allowing the team to regroup, relax, and refocus for the challenges ahead in the T20 World Cup 2026.
