Over the course of his career, he featured in 54 Test matches, 117 One-Day Internationals, and 61 T20 Internationals, accumulating 6,164 runs across formats.

His record includes six centuries and 35 half-centuries, while his contribution behind the stumps was equally significant, with 315 catches and 56 stumpings.

The highlight of Sarfaraz’s international career came in 2017 when he captained Pakistan to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Under his leadership, Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs in the final at The Oval, securing one of the most memorable triumphs in the country’s cricket history.

The victory ended Pakistan’s long wait for a major ICC title and cemented Sarfaraz’s reputation as a calm and effective leader.

His leadership credentials had already been established earlier in his career. In 2006, Sarfaraz guided Pakistan to success in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2006, becoming one of the few captains to win ICC titles at both junior and senior levels.

Across formats, Sarfaraz captained Pakistan in 100 international matches, including 13 Tests, 50 ODIs, and 37 T20Is. During his tenure, Pakistan reached the No.1 ranking in T20 international cricket and achieved a record-breaking run of 11 consecutive T20I series victories, highlighting the team’s consistency during that period.

In his statement, Sarfaraz Ahmed described representing Pakistan as the greatest honour of his life. He thanked teammates, coaches, family members, and supporters for their continued support throughout his journey, highlighting how playing international cricket under one of the richest cricket boards in the world gave him unforgettable memories.

Sarfaraz last represented Pakistan in a Test match against Australia in Perth in 2023. While his playing career has now concluded, his experience and leadership are expected to keep him closely connected with the game in the years ahead.

[939,940,938
488
post-1747","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-former-pakistan-captain","tag-icc-champions-trophy-2017","tag-sarfaraz-ahmed
["GET
